Soil Testing

To be prepared for a successful garden season, start with the proper soil nutrients. If you have not had your soil tested in the last three years, you should do so before the planting season. The cost to submit a soil sample is $4.00 per box from December thru March, but from April thru November there is no fee.

Sample boxes and information sheets are available in the Cherokee County Cooperative Extension Office located at 40 Peachtree Street in Murphy, NC.

You collect the soil samples from any area you wish to test – flower beds, lawns, vegetable gardens, shrubbery, etc. – and send it in to be tested. You will be sent back information on what your soil needs to produce the biggest flowers, a green and lush lawn, and a plentiful bounty of vegetables.

Contact the Cherokee County Extension Office if you have any questions: 828-837-2210.
